Asthma and social anxiety
Article Outline
Bruzzese et al recently completed a study of the prevalence of social anxiety in high school students diagnosed with asthma. Compared with students without asthma, students with asthma reported increased social anxiety symptoms related to fear of negative evaluations and discomfort in social settings. Physicians and nurses caring for adolescents with asthma might inquire concerning such symptoms and offer to treat social anxiety in asthma patients.
