Bronchoscopy with suspected foreign body inhalation
Article Outline
Cohen et al from Hadassah-Hebrew University in Jerusalem have evaluated the indications for bronchoscopy in 142 children presenting with a suspected foreign body inhalation. They find that, in children with a history of choking, bronchoscopy is mandatory if there are persistent symptoms such as cough, dyspnea or fever, or any abnormal physical or chest radiographic signs. In asymptomatic children with normal physical and radiographic examinations, bronchoscopy was invariably negative.
