Impact of reactivations in multisystem Langerhans cell histiocytosis
Article Outline
The clinical impact of reactivations in multisystem Langerhans cell histiocytosis has been studied by Minkov et al from the International LCH Study Group. In a retrospective analysis of 335 patients, the probability of reactivation within 5 years of disease resolution was 46%. The locations of the different recurrences are reported, many of which were skeletal. The mortality associated with the first reactivation was 2.2%. In the majority, a second remission was achieved and the probability of a second reactivation within 5 years was 44%. The risk of permanent consequences was greater in patients with reactivations compared with those without reactivations. The authors discuss the need for further prospective trials.
