Respiratory outcomes from repair of esophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula
Article Outline
Respiratory symptoms, pulmonary function, and bronchial responsiveness were evaluated in 31 adolescents following repair of esophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula and correlated with serial bronchial biopsy results. Asthma symptoms and abnormal pulmonary function results were common, but they tended to resolve and were not associated with the airway remodeling and chronic eosinophilic inflammation typically seen in patients with asthma.
