Evidence of norovirus causing necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in a NICU
Article Outline
Turcios-Ruiz et al present compelling evidence of a NICU outbreak of NEC associated with nosocomial norovirus infection. Increased attack rate of NEC, cluster of cases in time and space, and association with a symptomatic caregiver in a case-control study all support the conclusion. Norovirus is a nosocomial cause of NEC and should be preventable by meticulous attention to infection control policy and implementation.
