Evaluation of a new hypoallergenic formula

A new amino acid-based formula has been developed for infants with cow's milk allergy who are unable to tolerate extensively hydrolyzed formula. This new formula has been evaluated for nutritional outcomes and hypoallergenicity in a study reported by Burks et al. The results show that growth, tolerance, and safety were similar for the new formula compared with the control. Twenty-nine babies participated in double-blind, placebo-controlled food challenges and there were no allergenic reactions. This new formula is safe and nutritious in healthy infants and those with cow's milk allergy.
