Glucose intolerance in cystic fibrosis
Article Outline
Elder et al studied the prevalence of abnormalities of glucose metabolism in children with cystic fibrosis. The subjects were classified as having either normal glucose metabolism or abnormal glucose metabolism. However, despite differences in their glycemic response, both groups had marked abnormalities of insulin secretion relative to control without any significant difference in insulin sensitivity between subjects and controls. The authors suggest that more comprehensive screening for abnormalities of glucose metabolism would be appropriate in outpatients with cystic fibrosis.
