Recurrent venous thrombosis in children
Article Outline
The risk factors for recurrent venous thrombosis in children were evaluated in an observational cohort study at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. One hundred twenty patients had an episode of acute venous thrombosis, and 19 of the cohort had recurrent thrombosis. Six of these had cystic fibrosis and most of them had central venous catheters. The study showed that the patients with CF had a high risk of recurrent venous thrombosis, especially with central lines, for reasons that still have to be defined. This observation may have clinical implications.
