Once-daily ciclesonide in children
Article Outline
Ciclesonide is a new inhaled steroid for asthma that has high rates of deposition when inhaled through a hydrofluoroalkane metered-dose inhaler. Gelfand et al report a study of 1,031 children treated with once-daily inhaled ciclesonide. Three doses were compared with placebo in children with persistent asthma of all severities. All doses of ciclesonide were associated with improvement in FEV1, asthma symptoms, and reductions in use of bronchodilators. It was also well tolerated with no effect on HPA-axis function.
