Once-daily ciclesonide in children

Ciclesonide is a new inhaled steroid for asthma that has high rates of deposition when inhaled through a hydrofluoroalkane metered-dose inhaler. Gelfand et al report a study of 1,031 children treated with once-daily inhaled ciclesonide. Three doses were compared with placebo in children with persistent asthma of all severities. All doses of ciclesonide were associated with improvement in FEV₁, asthma symptoms, and reductions in use of bronchodilators. It was also well tolerated with no effect on HPA-axis function.
